Phuket, Thailand — hotels, tours, transfers & packages

Phuket is Thailand's largest island, joined to the mainland by a bridge and served by its own international airport (HKT) in the north. The west coast is a chain of beaches, each with its own character.

About Phuket

Patong is the busiest beach with the nightlife and shopping; Kata and Karon to the south are more relaxed; Kamala, Surin and Bang Tao to the north have the larger resorts. Phuket Old Town, with its Sino-Portuguese shophouses, is on the east side.

Boat trips are the main activity: the Phi Phi Islands, Phang Nga Bay (James Bond Island) and, from mid-October to mid-May, the Similan Islands.

Phuket travel facts

Getting there

  • Phuket International Airport (HKT)
In the north of the island. 45 minutes to Patong, about an hour to Kata/Karon by car.

Fly into HKT and take a private transfer to your beach; there is no rail link and public buses are slow. Boats to Phi Phi and Krabi leave from Rassada Pier on the east coast.

Where to stay

  • Patong — Main beach town with Bangla Road nightlife, Jungceylon mall and the widest hotel range.
  • Kata / Karon — Two long beaches south of Patong; calmer and good for families.
  • Kamala / Surin — Quieter beaches north of Patong with upscale resorts.
  • Bang Tao / Laguna — Large resort estate with a lagoon, golf and a 6 km beach.
  • Rawai / Nai Harn — Southern tip; local seafood, long-stay villas and Promthep Cape sunsets.
  • Phuket Old Town — Heritage shophouses, cafés and the Sunday walking street.

When to go

  • High season · November – April
Calm Andaman seas, clear water and the best island-hopping conditions.
  • Green season · May – October
South-west monsoon brings rain and rough seas; red flags on west-coast beaches, lower rates.

Phuket travel questions

Which beach in Phuket is best for a first visit?+

Patong if you want nightlife and shopping within walking distance; Kata or Karon for a quieter beach with restaurants; Bang Tao or Kamala for resort stays. All are 30–60 minutes from the airport.

How do I get from Phuket Airport to Patong?+

A private transfer from HKT to Patong takes about 45 minutes and is booked per vehicle, so the price is the same for one or three passengers.

When is the best time to visit Phuket?+

November to April has the calmest seas and clearest water for Phi Phi and Phang Nga Bay trips. May to October is the monsoon; some island tours pause and swimming can be restricted on the west coast.

Can I charter a party yacht in Phuket?+

Yes. Private yacht and catamaran charters leave from the Chalong and Ao Po marinas for half-day, full-day and sunset trips, with the whole boat and crew booked for your group.
